I managed to get the white parts of the tail painted (delineating the red band on the tail) by putting text over the base red color of the tailfin. There is a character called "full block" in the character set for Arial that fills the entire character glyph with a rectangular block. Choosing the text color (in this case it was white 245/245/245) allows users to paint
horizonal only bands of color on the repaints.
It's a bit of an experiment, and I hope it works for you. The download has been removed since it is now outdated a little.
EDIT; I remade HB-CQM on the link to have some extra features, since I can now add a shear effect to the cowling logo to make it a slightly better shape.
