Falcon 2000 N215RE
« on: August 29, 2022, 12:00:35 AM »
A repaint of the RFAI Falcon 2000 reduced in size for FS9, from Marco's HD paint kit.

Hope it might work for some of you. I've included 3 sets of 52-week plans for this aircraft. In one set there are 2 visits to Europe in the year (EHAM and EVRA), which isn't bad considering the real aircraft is based in Costa Rica (MROC).

Please specify what model is used for Falcon 2000, 2000A 2000W, or 2000WA?

Thanks,

Stuart

That's the 2000 as it does not have the tail antenna (A) or winglets (W)

Thanks Charly for fielding that query.

When making the model I became aware that EX models might have winglets or not, that DX models could get winglets as upgrades, and the tail antenna could be fitted on delivery, and the aircraft would keep its designation in some cases or might change designations. About the only solid model definition was the S, the newer Falcon 2000 that was given the inboard slats that were on the Falcon 900 (this allowed it to operate into places like London City. The Version 2 Falcons I released came after making the Falcon 900 that included these slats. I read about the imminent debut of the 2000S and took the 900s inboard slats and stuck them on the Falcon 2000 (and made a couple of other changes as well). Since the two types share the same wing, this was not a problem.

So, quite late in the packaging process, I elected to use W & A to describe what the aircraft physically looked like (and made a Nocam model to remove the nose camera). This seemed the most logical approach. So all that someone needs to do is either look at a screenshot of the AI or look for a recent image of the real aircraft online to know whether to go A, or W, or both, or neither.

N215RE is a "neither". Looking at the deployed slats in this image, it's also obviously not a 2000S either.

Mage, my response was to Stuart's question, just so he knows which model to use. Also, I agree on using the appearance to separate the models rather than some sort of company designation. I think that's the best way when creating models.

By the way, nice paint.  :)

Hi Charly,

Yes, I was just saying thanks to you for answering Stuart's query more quickly than I would have done!

I thought I would then just fill in why I didn't use company designations.

The paint lost some fidelity by being sized down to 1024x1024. I thought I'd done a pretty decent job until I scaled it down as far as I did. I think for FS9 it might be better for me to work from a native-scaled paint kit, as I did today for a Falcon 900 that will be posted probably by the time you read this. Scaling down from 4096x ro 1024x means every sixteen pixels being reduced to just one - that's quite a hit on quality. Unfortunately a 4K texture would take up quite a lot of space on your server.

For the F900 just about to be posted, it's only ever existed as 1024x1024 anyway. Another fun livery.
